News came out this week that Adrian Peterson has himself a new home for the 2017/18 NFL Season. That new home? New Orleans!!
After playing his football for a decade in Minnesota, AP has decided to move to New Orleans Saints on a two-year deal that will pay him a healthy $7 million dollars (around £5.4 million), with $3.5 million (£2.7 million) guaranteed in 2017.
Peterson, 32, said “I am excited to be joining the New Orleans Saints. I’m really looking forward to this opportunity.
“Most importantly, I chose this team because it just felt right within my spirit. Additionally, my wife and family added their confirmation with the same feelings.”
We knew AP was testing the Free Agency market through the offseason and was focused on finding a team that would help him win a Super Bowl, and he clearly feels the Saints are that team – you make your own judgement!!
But, for all of the money and the speculation of a Super Bowl calibre team, it does mean that we get to see Peterson in action in Week 4 of the regular season. There was a slight chance that we could have seen him later in the year when the Minnesota Vikings visit the UK for the second time to face the Cleveland Browns in Week 8, but now we he has a team and that team is headed to Wembley.
The New Orleans Saints face the Miami Dolphins at Wembley Stadium on Sunday 29th October (1:30pm Kick Off – UK Time) in what should be an electric game and an even better atmosphere.
This game could turn into a battle of the Running Backs with the Saints fans cheering on new-boy Peterson and the Dolphins fans welcoming home UK-born Jay Ajayi. One things for sure though, and that’s that the UK fans will be excited to see AP in what could be his last game in the UK.
Another date for the calendar for AP and Saints fans is Week 1 (September 11th), when New Orleans head to Peterson’s former home, the Minnesota Vikings. We’re excited already!
